Oscar Wilde

Recently on the site, people have discovered the Oscar Wilde set, and I should explain that it is tradition that women (and some men, as I have seen firsthand) smear lipstick on, then plant a big kiss on this tombsite.  This is for good luck in love.

Apparently, it also gives his grandson fits, as the oils in lipstick permanently stain the stonework.

Two thoughts:

1.  How Oscar Wilde has become a beacon of hope for straight women with love troubles is a *bit* puzzling to me.  Further research is required!  (Here's a quick lowdown of his romantic troubles and the famous phrase 'the love that dare not speak its name':

2. Regardless of how it started, I am certain Oscar would love the fame and flagrant disregard for 'rules' such as this (Image from my collection and in the ABV store):
